Music Update

Let’s take a mini break on all the fashion and looks for a minute and let’s talk music.

In the past few months, I feel like I have been missing out on the new music from some of my favorite artist. While I sit and wait patiently for artist such as Jorja Smith, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Ryan Trey to name a few. I expand my range in artist that I recently started to listen to.

  1. In my head -Ariana Grande + Thank You Next Album

Queen Ariana Grande! After releasing 7 rings, Imagine and Thank you, next. I took notes to the pattern in which she releases singles. On the date of February 7th, she drops a 15 tracklist album THANK YOU, NEXT. If I can describe this album in 2 words it would be honest, and the kind that explained: “In my head”.

“Painted a picture; I thought I drew you well
I had a vision of seeing what isn’t there
Caught in the moment, tangled up in your sheets”- Genius

2. Halsey – Without Me (Lucid world) (video link)

When I think of Halsey I think of a powerful role model and person who says her truth. Her music is so much like her personality. As Halsey explains about being taken advantage of after you’ve tried and tried to help someone. It can connect to everyone not just in a relationship but a friendship.

“And if they laugh, then f*** ’em all (All)
And then I got you off your knees
Put you right back on your feet
Just so you could take advantage of me

Tell me, how’s it feel sittin’ up there?
Feelin’ so high, but too far away to hold me
You know I’m the one who put you up there
Name in the sky, does it ever get lonely?

Thinking you could live without me” -Genius.com

3. Do Not Disturb- Mahalia (video link)

I love songs about the relationship because they are common. I believe that what Mahalia states in this song is about trying to be in a relationship and it’s about trusting yourself.

“This time, this time I won’t hold the line
Been givin’ you time that you do not deserve
No, you’re not mine, you just pretend to be
Don’t need you tempting me with your alerts
Do not disturb
I’m putting myself on do not disturb”-Genius.com

4. Don’t Call me Up – Mabel (video link )

You guys probably know already that, I love UK artist, I love their voice. I can describe this song in 3 words, “move on independently” .Why?, becuase It’s a breakup song like no other. The best thing about this song is its about moving on and being more independent and confident. The music video is amazing and matches with the theme perfectly.

“Don’t call me up
I’m going out tonight
Feeling good now you’re outta my life
Don’t wanna talk about us
Gotta leave it behind
One drink and you’re outta my mind
Now, now take it up
Baby, I’m on a high
You’re alone, going out of your mind
But I’m here out in the club
And I don’t wanna talk
So don’t call me up” -Genius.com

5. Mile High- James Blake Ft. Metro Boomin and Travis Scott (video link )

When I first heard this song I was obsessed with the beat. It makes you feel like the world is moving slower and time stops. The thought of daydreaming you can imagine a storyline of a relationship with someone.

“Watch the fan as it spins
In my arms, wrapped in
Don’t know where you stop
And where I begin
Like I found myself an imaginary friend
And when we stay in
I’m missin’ everything” -Genius.com

6. Easy – Jvck James, Jada Maria

Do you ever listen to the beat of a song and think of another artist? I don’t know if that is common but I have immediately thought of Khelani Sweet Sexy Savage album and Jheno Aiko Trip album when I heard this song. This song is about honesty in a relationship and knowing your place. The game of love and playing it the right way.

“Does he even want to claim you
Taking off your clothes
Take a picture, sexy pose, boy
Guess you really fell for it this time
But he doesn’t have your best interest in mind”- Genius.com

7. Run It- Neelam

Picture from Youtuber : Neelam-Topic

Strong, empowering and perfect for a daily exercise playlist. It gives a feeling of being on top of the world. I feel a sense of rising up above the haters and being confident in every way.

“You need assistant call my assistances my only business leading my resistance. Fitted tips painted with a teflon. Hard. Teflon with a dress on”

8. BP- Summer Walker

Picture from Youtuber : Summer Walker

This song is the meaning of don’t judge a book by it’s cover. In the song she explains how a person would think she is into the material things in life. When in reality she wants someones heart and their character.

“Say you never been friendzoned before
Hopefully your ego will defuse poor child
You look so confused
‘Cause you’ve got a reality check
‘Cause I got my own check
So, move onto the next who’s more impressed
Rid of all your fancy things that don’t mean nothing to me
That’ll get old but not if you got
A heart of gold”- Genius.com

It’s also a great way to connect with people which makes me love it even more.
